For Parents

Basic Users

Your child completes energy savings actions found on our website, then clicks "I DID IT!" to see the energy, $$ and trees saved. These are estimates, based on average American consumption. At the end of the month, you and your child get a Scorecard, and it's time to collect on the "deal." Remember, the "deal" is whatever terms you and your child agree upon (e.g., half of savings), based upon how much is saved.

Real Data Users

Real Data Users do the same actions as Basic Users, but the energy savings are based on your actual energy consumption as measured by your meter. This is only possible if your electric utility has partnered with Green Allowance, so that we can obtain your consumption data through a secure link to them. Also, if real data is available, kids can compete on school teams and see their scores updated and posted on the Leaderboards. Real Data Users have the added advantage of realizing the savings based on energy saving habits (as compared to actions), such as turning off the lights, while Basic Users do not.

If your utility is not part of our program, your child can still complete actions, track estimated savings and make a deal to share those savings with you. They can even start a team by bringing their scores to school and creating their own offline system to track scores. Either way, they'll be saving you money, getting a raise and helping the environment!

Why You Can Trust Us

We're a website working to help children take the lead to champion resource conservation and help the environment. We are extremely sensitive to family and teacher concerns about their children's personal information and safety. We're also parents, and Green Allowance complies fully with COPPA, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.

We are enlisting utilities to partner with us to address climate change and reduce stress on our power infrastructure. If utility account information is provided to Green Allowance, it is done so through a secure link. Your local utility will also receive reports on the efficacy of this program. We will never sell or share this or any other personally identifiable information with anyone, nor will we send mass emails to the email address(es) you give us.

How to Delete Your Child's Registration

Parents can delete the account for an under-13 child's account at any time. If you don’t have your child’s screen name and password, simply click Log In and then choose “Forgot your screen name and password?” The screen name and password will be sent to your child’s and your email addresses. You can then log in to your child’s account, go to My Membership and click on “delete this account.” Your child, as well as any user of any age, can also delete his or her account the same way.

End Emailing of Scorecards

Parents can end the emailing of Scorecards to an under-13 user or to themselves. Just log into your child's account, go to My Membership, and select the "discontinue" check box. Children under 13 can also delete the emailing of Scorecards using the same procedure.

Boy, that cash incentive really motivates them. They're so committed to this!
